Break past those boundaries!
My name is Jorey Olson. I'm 26 years old. I live in Duluth, MN and I've been training at Horton's Gym for the past two years. I was initially drawn to boxing by the level of physical athleticism and mental fortitude the sport requires. Boxing is a sport that quickly defines your limitations, both mentally and physically. If you want to succeed, it requires you to break past those boundaries.
When I first started training, I thought of boxing as a solo sport and not a team sport. After training at Horton's Gym, I found that this is not the case. My teammates are everyone that I train with and the great coaches like Chuck Horton and Jack O'Brian that train us. From the guy who trains so hard he inspires you to give that extra ten percent or the guy that shows you a better way to throw your jab, it is easy to see how boxing is a team sport.
Horton's Gym is a unique place. It's a place you won't find gym wars, or grudge matches. What you will find is a common drive to become better athletes and fighters. Also, because of the Adam Van Alstine Fund, may young kids and fighters can train to box. It gives youngsters a chance to learn a little bit about hard work, discipline and sacrifice, words that can make anyone stronger for knowing them.
